Intellectual Property (IP) is an overall term for ownership of and rights to creative works. Trademarks, patents, registered designs, and copyrights are different types of intellectual property. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office grants patents and registers trademarks. The U.S. Copyright Office at the Library of Congress registers copyrights. A brief description of copyrights, patents, registered designs, and trademarks are provided below.
